For eight decades, one thing more than any other has separated Mercury Marine from its competition – the people of Mercury Marine. The same spirit that drives Mercury employees to achieve great feats of engineering and workmanship also drives their desire to strengthen the communities where they live.

Around the world, Mercury employees dedicate significant time, energy and money to local organizations, demonstrating true commitment to help their neighbors. Historically, about 40 percent of Mercury employees based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, participate in at least 20 hours annually of community volunteerism.

In addition to its tuition-reimbursement program for employees, Mercury’s strong support of education includes support of the Fond du Lac school system’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academy and providing college scholarships to employees’ children through the Brunswick Foundation. In Juarez, Mexico, where Mercury is a key employer, staff members donate time to area schools, providing mentoring services, painting classrooms and donating school supplies.

This commitment to education goes beyond schools. Mercury Marine employees support the Fond du Lac Children’s Museum by serving on its board of directors, providing content for exhibits and raising funds.

The company’s dedication to young people includes long-standing commitments to the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Fond du Lac Partnership for Young Children. In Suzhou, China, Mercury employees volunteer with the Wuzhong Orphanage.

Mercury employees volunteer regularly in their communities while Mercury Marine corporately provides major support to organizations such as the Fond du Lac Area United Way and charitable events such as the “Fill the Boat to Cast Out Hunger” food drive, “Rake Rattle and Roll” leaf-raking effort and “Support The Troops” drive. The company has also replicated these events in other locations around the world.

During its eight decades of leading in innovation and accomplishment, Mercury Marine has also built a foundation of community involvement that its employees and retirees can point to with pride and with the knowledge that this commitment will continue for the next eight decades and beyond.

Color it strong

When selecting an outboard engine, who thinks about the paint? Mercury Marine does, and that’s why Mercury created MercFusion, a proprietary paint process engineered to handle the extreme marine environment.

Using both manual and robotic applications, Mercury’s own low copper aluminum is coated with a chemical film called irridite that creates a corrosion barrier and lays a base to which the paint can adhere. Next, an electro-deposition paint primer is applied. The paint and component have opposite electrical charges for uniform coverage and an additional layer of protection.

The powder paint top coat contains special polymers – designed by Mercury – to adhere better and longer. Once the finish is thermo-cured, the result is a harder, thicker and tougher finish than provided by any other brand.

The process is proven, both in the lab and when exposed to brutal sun and saltwater at Mercury’s X-Site test base in Florida.
